CIRTL Certificate
CIRTL at Northwestern programs address the three CIRTL core ideas:
Mastery of these foundational pillars is indicated by three ascending levels of learning outcomes: CIRTL Associate, CIRTL Practitioner, and CIRTL Scholar.
CIRTL Associate
CIRTL Associates demonstrate knowledge of effective teaching practices and a commitment to the core principles that enhance evidence-based teaching in their discipline. There are a number of options that you can engage in to achieve the CIRTL Associate level certification at Northwestern.
Each bullet point below is one option to achieve the Associate level. Participants may:
- Participate in Mentored Discussions of Teaching or the Equity in STEM Journal Club, and either attend two CIRTL Network or Searle Center workshops
- Take a CIRTL Network online course
- Participate in both Mentored Discussions of Teaching and the Equity in STEM Journal Club
- Complete three quarters of Reflective and Effective Teaching
CIRTL Practitioners
CIRTL Practitioners have met the requirements for CIRTL Associate and have implemented a Teaching-As-Research project through the Searle Teaching-as-Research (STAR) Program or were trained as a Formative Feedback Partner.
CIRTL Scholars
CIRTL Scholars have met the STAR Practitioner requirements and have contributed to the broader community by sharing their findings (e.g., presenting a talk or poster at a conference, submitting a scholarly publication, or co-facilitating a teaching and learning workshop at the Searle Center).
