CIRTL at Northwestern

CIRTL Logo

The Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, and Learning (CIRTL) is an internationally recognized network of over 40 research universities, including Northwestern University, that supports the development of future faculty committed to implementing accessible, evidence-based teaching practices for all undergraduate learners. CIRTL at Northwestern represents programs offering by Searle or local offerings, complementing the online network offerings, and is designed to build a community of practitioners within and across disciplines–both locally and internationally–to improve undergraduate student learning.

STEM programs offered by the Searle Center embrace CIRTL’s three core ideas:

  • Learning Communities
  • Learning-through-Diversity
  • Teaching-as-Research (TAR)

Local Offerings

The Searle Center offers local programs designed to provide professional development opportunities around teaching and learning to graduate students and postdocs who are future STEM and social science faculty. Participation in STEM-based programming offered through the Searle Center and the CIRTL Online Network is eligible for and recognized by a CIRTL Certificate.

Online Network Offerings

Complementing Searle’s educational and professional development opportunities, through our CIRTL membership, the Northwestern community has access to robust online resources, programming, workshops, and events with peers and experts across all CIRTL institutions. Topics include: fostering a growth mindset, teaching with transparency, and Teaching-as-Research (TAR).
