Overview

Searle’s DEIJ Reading Circles are designed to create “brave spaces” and inspire a culture of growth. In a small group, participants explore DEIJ issues in higher education and deepen their understanding of equitable teaching practices through the guided discussion of scholarly texts. Addressing a variety of principles related to equity, identity, and learning such as race-conscious sense-making of teaching, awareness of racial dynamics in STEM classrooms, positionality, and humanizing pedagogies, this 60-minute reading circle empowers participants to develop an equity-based mindset and a critical approach to effectively addressing inequalities in STEM education.

Eligibility

Open to graduate students, postdocs, staff, and instructors at all stages of their careers.
