The Menges Library

Located in the Searle Center, our library is named in honor of its patron, Dr. Robert J. Menges, who bequeathed his personal collection of books on teaching and learning to the Center in 1998. Dr. Menges was a Professor of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University and director of the research program on faculty and instruction of the National Center for Postsecondary Teaching, Learning, and Assessment.

From 2003 to 2022, Dr. Menges's wife, the late Gay Menges, made an annual gift to the library, allowing the Searle Center to expand Dr. Menges's foundational collection with leading edge research.

We wish to acknowledge Dr. And Mrs. Menges for their years of generous support.

The Robert J. Menges Memorial Library houses a large selection of books on learning and teaching. We invite Northwestern faculty, staff, and students to peruse the collection in our sunny library or check out materials to read at home. Circulating materials may be borrowed for up to one month.
