Supporting Student Success Practicum

An Open Educational Resource (OER) to learn more about and reflect on student success.

Advancing the University Priority of building resilient students and a sense of belonging.

This OER invites instructors to (re)define student success, exploring ways to create an environment for, facilitate, and assess student success through engaging recordings and curated resources. Video resources include real-word examples and reflections from a panel of Northwestern faculty and a keynote address on holistic approaches to student success by Jillian Kinzie, Associate Director of the National Survey of Student Engagement.

Each year, the University Practicum hosts a practical, flexible, and supportive online practicum on a timely topic of learning and teaching. The 2024–25 topic, Supporting Student Success, was determined by a survey of Northwestern instructors, who expressed their commitment to promoting academic rigor and learning enriched by empathy and equity. Working alongside educational developers and faculty experts, participants (re)defined students' holistic success and advanced their techniques for creating, facilitating, and assessing student success. This OER has been adapted from the practicum offered at Northwestern University, February 2025 and April 2025.
