Overview

The Getting to Know Our Students Sparkshop Series focuses on advancing understanding of rising demographics in the Northwestern student body, outlining evidence-based practices to harness common assets and overcome common challenges. The strengths-based, evidence-driven strategies presented are empirically demonstrated to enhance learning for all students.

For instructors who would like to deepen their engagement with series topics, each Sparkshop comes with a comprehensive Learning & Teaching Guide to enhance instructor knowledge of effective techniques.

Upcoming Sparkshop: Getting to Know Our Neurodivergent Students

Tuesday, May 6, 2025 from 12:30–1:00 pm | Online

Based in the principles of Universal Design for Learning, this 30-minute virtual presentation offers evidence-driven teaching strategies to support neurodivergent student success at a broad level, breaking down barriers and building in choice to empower students to utilize and develop their own academic strengths. The strategies presented have been empirically demonstrated to benefit all learners.

Learning & Teaching Guides from the Sparkshop Series

Eligibility

All members of the Northwestern community are welcome.

Time Commitment

Sparkshops are 30 minutes long, typically 20 minutes of presentation with ten minutes for questions. Participants may choose to engage with the related Learning & Teaching Guide or book a consultation with one of the Searle Center's educational developers to learn more.
